I have been working in EU public affairs for ten years. Back in 2002 I worked on international tobacco policy for the British Medical Association as a Policy Researcher. The work involved evidence based research, advising parliamentarians and lobbying at the World Health Organisation Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. In this role I project managed a campaign manifesto representing doctors worldwide.
For over four years I then worked for a London MEP at the European Parliament in Brussels. Following Parliamentary Committees, the role required understanding of the EU 'machine.' In this role, I wrote public reports and policy documents and gained an understanding of how the EU institutions work from the inside.
In 2007 I joined the team at Scotland Europa, a Brussels-based regional organisation representing a range of clients with public, private and academic backgrounds. As a Senior Policy Executive, my speciality fields were environment, social affairs and health. Often operating jointly with the Scottish Government and Parliament, the role involved working at high level providing intelligence, strategising and capacity building.
Since 2009 I have been working as a freelance EU policy consultant, helping organisations better understand and influence the EU institutions. I am based in the Netherlands and regularly commute to Brussels.
